Susan Calderara, Principal

Watching children learn is fascinating!  Children are like little sponges, absorbing everything.  I believe that new discoveries strengthen the spirit of an individual. Perhaps this is why my career as an educator is and has been a passion for 28 years.

I was born and raised in beautiful San Diego, California and attended Southwestern College with a focus in Spanish. While in college, I met and married my husband and moved to his hometown in rural Milford, New Hampshire. We lived in New England for 18 years. We raised three sons and became actively involved in their hockey, baseball, and basketball activities. During that time, I returned to college and graduated from Rivier College in Nashua, New Hampshire with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Soon after, I received a Master's degree in Elementary Education at Antioch New England. Looking back, what an amazing experience to teach in the only elementary school in the antiquated town of Milford. My classroom had beautiful hardwood floors with radiators that hissed and clanged during the frigid winter months. The school was over 100 years old and like the town, full of historical memories.

In 1997, my husband's work transferred our family to Georgia. I continued my teaching career in the Marietta City School District and later, Cobb County School District. I earned a Teacher Support Specialist endorsement (TSS) and an Educational Leadership add-on from Kennesaw State University. In 2007, I completed a Specialist Degree (EdS) in Leadership and Administration from Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee.

It is an honor to serve the community of the Douglas County School System. The DCSS vision keeps all of us in check and focused to developing life-long learners, responsible individuals, and independent thinkers. I have a vested interest in all of the children, their families, and my staff. With five years as the Assistant Principal at Winston Elementary, four years at Mirror Lake Elementary as the Principal, and into my second year as Principal of Beulah, this year will mark my eleventh year in a leadership capacity. I look forward to working with the Beulah community once again, and I am more than excited to meet new friends as well. It is my pleasure to serve you. Please stop in and say hello! Welcome!
